Everyone knows that aggressive hair care methods, such as excessive brushing, blow-drying, and chemistry can cause damage, dullness and loss. In addition to external factors, there are also internal, such as alcohol, smoking, contraceptives, lack of vitamins of group B, zinc, which also harm the hair. If your hair has lost its former beauty, then you should immediately declare war on their main enemies. Proper care and hair care will restore their health, volume and vitality.

It is believed that stress and intense muscular work burn important amino acids. But does stress make hair dull? No, stress has no effect on the hair shaft, according to Dr. Sten. The hair shaft consists of dead cells (keratin). There is no scientific evidence that stress accelerates the life cycle of a hair or damages it. The life cycle of a hair consists of three phases. The growth phase (anagen) lasts from 3 to 5 years. This is followed by a catagen phase whose duration is from 15 to 20 days, during this phase the hair stops growing. And the third phase telogen lasts 2 months, then the hair falls out, and in its place a new one begins to grow.

Hair cycle

Proper hair care is important for hair growth without various aggressive agents. If their condition is weak and you are worried about daily loss, then in this case you should consult with a specialist who will prescribe the necessary nutritional and firming product. The less mechanical damage, chemicals, the better for the hair. Let's talk about what's bad for hair.

Harm to hair

Hair dryer: blow-drying and straightening contribute to their fragility. When drying the hair dryer can not keep it too close to the hair, and be sure to put the tip. It will be better for your hair if you don’t use a hair dryer too often. Hair loves natural air drying.

If you regularly use straighteners, then you should protect your hair with cosmetic oil. Never use curling irons or straighteners on wet or wet hair (water boils and ruins the hair).

The sun: Many people know that active sunlight is harmful to the skin and hair (read here), but in moderation they can be beneficial. Hair as well as skin can get a tan in its own way. Currently, there are various protective and strengthening products for hair that should be used while relaxing on the beach (for example, Kerastase, L’Oreal Professional in the form of a spray, oil, gel). The composition of these products include components of rehydration, color stabilizers, UV filters that will help you get rid of stiffness, dry hair and protect from the sun during rest.

Incorrect combing: Serious damage to hair can be caused by improper combing, i.e. if you comb long hair from the roots. How to comb (read here). In addition, experts report that combing the hair from the temples to the back of the head can lead to bald patches. You should always comb your hair with soft movements. Choose a suitable comb that does not pull or damage the hair.

Chemistry: The main enemy of hair is chemistry. Frequent staining, discoloration causes irreparable harm to every hair on the head. After that, they, as a rule, lose their former volume, density, become dry, thin. Before you dye and burn hair, think. If, however, you decide to change the color of your hair, then in this case, use natural or soft dyes.

Accessories: various tight gum, hairpins can harm the hair. Hair may become entangled in the elastic bands, which will lead to pulling. Poor clips for hair can also tangle the hair, so you need to carefully use them. In addition, the comb can worsen the condition of the hair, if you have discomfort when using it. Experts recommend using high-quality accessories for the hair and better of natural materials. The comb should also be soft and natural, for example, from wood, in order to avoid static electricity, breakage, tearing of hair.

Ideal accessories are wood studs, as well as smooth materials that prevent entanglement, tearing, pulling. It is also recommended to use high combs that look perfect and do not tangle hair.

If your hair splits, then in this case you should include more iron-rich foods, fish, foods containing magnesium (green vegetables, legumes, chocolate, etc.) and vitamin E (sunflower oil) in the menu. Also use medicated serum from split ends, and eliminate all harmful factors that harm the hair.

Harmful effects on hair styling devices

Naturally, not everyone can afford not to style their hair, and the lack of time, especially on weekdays, has made such “fast” styling methods as curling, straightening or hairdryer, hot iron straightening, shirring extremely popular. Every day, thousands of women put their hair in exactly these ways and such a “strength test” cannot pass without consequences.

Constant contact of hair with hot surfaces, hot dry or moist air destroys the protective keratin layer and lose nutrients, from which literally every hair becomes rough, cut at the end, and the entire mass of hair looks dry and dull, cannot be styled and requires different emollient balms.

So how to be, completely abandon the use of appliances for hot styling and get up every morning an hour and a half earlier to put wet hair on curlers? Of course, we can not do without the usual ways, but we can protect the hair by following the rules:

  • - no need to blow-dry your hair completely, let it dry on the air, for this you should wash your hair not in the morning, but in the evening,
  • - hair dryer hair dryer will not bring so much trouble, if you do not put it to the maximum,
  • - you need to keep the hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm from the hair,
  • - at every opportunity try to dry your hair in a natural way,
  • - using a curling iron, you should not expose it to maximum heat, because in some devices it is 180-200 degrees, and this can lead to instant hair damage.

Is straightening hair harmful?

The definite answer is yes, harmful, including keratin. Keratin hair straightening today is one of the most popular, one might say, “mass” procedures for improving the appearance of hair, mainly due to the extensive advertising of this expensive procedure.

The procedure is based on saturation of hair with keratin, which is useful in itself. However, during the "sealing" of keratin, a hair iron is used in the hair structure, which can damage the surface of the hair. But the main danger is that formaldehyde preparations are in the composition of the means for keratin straightening, which, naturally, is not advertised (it is glyoxal or oxaldehyde).

These substances are extremely toxic for the whole body and can cause cancer. Therefore, deciding on such a procedure, you need to have good reasons for its implementation. As for the hair straightening irons, then we already said a little higher.

Is hair lamination harmful?

Despite the fact that lamination is presented as a procedure to improve the condition of the hair and their appearance, most hairdressers tend to think that lamination makes the hair heavier and deprives them of natural breathing, which can even lead to their loss. It is advisable to use lamination only before traveling to the sea, since salt water and strong sun will bring more damage to hair than the lamination procedure, which in this case is justified.

Is it harmful to dye your hair, are there any safe hair dyes?

The safety of hair dyes is mainly concerned with pregnant women and those with hair already weakened. Ammonia paints with a sharp specific odor causing tearing and sore throat are the biggest negative effects. They can not be used by those who have breathing problems or allergic reactions.

Dyes of this type give the most resistant and pronounced color just due to the ammonia component, which penetrates deep into the hair structure, but it is ammonia that makes hair fragile and weak. Those who often dye their hair with ammonia dyes, risk to spoil their hair or even stay without them, because ammonia causes their loss. In addition to ammonia, persistent dyes have parabens in their composition (it is they who paint in one color or another), which can cause oncology, accumulating in tissues.

Acid dyes are recognized to be relatively safe, as they can cause severe allergies, like other chemical dyes that do not contain ammonia. That is why it is so important to have a 24 or 48 hour allergy test.

Is tonic harmful to hair as well as resistant dye?

Toning agents are gentle because they do not penetrate the hair structure, but act superficially. But this does not mean that they can be completely safe, because even they are full of chemistry and the reaction to them is purely individual. To protect yourself, before applying the tonic it is also necessary to conduct a test. In no case can you dye your hair with any type of dyes while taking medicines or alcohol.

Perhaps the most harmless dyes are paints based on plant substances such as henna and basma, but they can also cause allergies. The disadvantage of plant and ammonia-free dyes for hair is the inconsistency and difficulty in coloring, especially when used on hair previously painted with ammonia dyes.

Could it be that henna is harmful to hair?

Henna is harmful only if there is an individual intolerance to this vegetable dye. Some people are misled by the name “White Henna” and they use it to lighten their hair. In fact, this drug has nothing in common with useful natural henna that improves the structure of hair and is a completely chemical ammonium lightening compound.

Is hair remover harmful?

Often, the color obtained during dyeing is disappointing and this is the reason for using the wash. In fact, it is better to endure a couple of weeks and repaint your hair than to expose them to such an aggressive effect.

The fact is that professional washes literally corrode the artificial pigment from the hair structure, damaging it. So you can generally part with hair that breaks off at the base or thinned.

A full wash often includes several consecutive procedures that are not less harmful than bleaching and not less. Harmless washing can be considered only homemade natural - it can be done with the use of honey, kefir, kvass or chamomile decoction.

We all heard that building hair is bad, is it?

The hair extension procedure, which makes it possible to indulge yourself with luxurious curls, is just as ambiguous: on the one hand, beauty and femininity, on the other, the risk of losing your own hair if it was initially weakened. Therefore, it is worth trusting only a proven master who performs the procedure professionally or advises to take care of hair exhausted by dyeing or chemistry.

For normal hair, a non-durable build-up can be safe, subject to the rules of wearing artificial strands. To save your hair, you need to make a correction in time, do not go to bed with wet hair, as well as use special shampoos and combs for extended hair care.

Is hair spray harmful?

It is believed that hair polishes are harmful to any surfactant (surfactant), including varnish and silicone.

Regular hairspray contains alcohol, which with frequent use leads to drying of the skin and hair, the hair does not breathe and begins to weaken, fall out. If it is not possible to refuse varnishes, then it is recommended to choose those that do not contain alcohol and incorporate natural ingredients. In addition, you must always wash your hair after applying lacquers.

Is silicone hair harmful?

Despite the fact that silicone is part of many hair care products, including shampoos, its role is not to improve the condition of hair. It acts superficially, that is, it visually improves the appearance of the hair, making it shiny and smooth, as it fills all the irregularities and errors of sick hairs. But it only aggravates their condition, as it forms a dense film and deprives the hair of natural breathing. Of course, from a single use of such a shampoo or spray there will be no harm, but you should not use them systematically.

As you can see, each procedure or tool can have its own “disadvantages” and it’s up to you to decide whether to risk it.
